I started teaching with VIPKid in November of 217 after learning about it on Facebook. I am a stay-at-home of two crazy children, aged 4 and 6, but I was looking to earn some extra "me" money. I was skeptical at first as it sounds a like a scam but it's REAL money and it's currently funding a surprise trip I have planned this winter for my kids!
It's perfect for stay-at-home moms as I make my own schedule and can choose to work when and for how long I want. In my first six weeks, I have taught 100 classes while sitting at my desk in my comfy pants.
There are ZERO start up costs! You simply need a computer, high speed internet and a good attitude. Headphones are highly recommended but I already had a good pair, plus you will need a few props. However, I simply borrowed my kid's toys and alphabet posters to use as props so I literally spent $0 to start. Other teachers have gone to Walmart or even the dollar store to buy: a white board, flash cards and maybe a map for the background (during the interview, VIPKids loves to see props both in your hand and in the background). VIPKids states that you are not required to buy ANYTHING for your interview (just rummage around your house for items --a ball, an apple, etc).

Requirements to Teach For VIPKid- You are a native English speaker (American/Canadian accents only). Sorry!
- ONE YEAR of “formal” or “informal” teaching experience such as mentoring, tutoring, coaching, or alternative education.
- You have a Bachelor's degree in any field
- You have a working desktop or laptop with high-speed internet that can handle both video and audio (headphones recommended).
If hired, you are working on a 6-month contract, which may be eligible for renewal at the end of the term.
Please note: The required ONE YEAR teaching experience MUST be stated on your initial step one application otherwise you wouldn't receive a green light to move on to the next level.

VIPKid offers a generous base pay of US $14-$18 hourly (US $7-$9 per lesson with each lesson lasting approximately 25 minutes, plus an additional 5 minutes for you to leave comments afterward. In addition to the base pay, there are bonuses for each lesson you teach. With the bonuses figured into the base pay, most teachers will earn between US$ 16-24 hourly.
BASED PAY: $7-9 per 25 minutes class
BONUSES: $1 for being on time
BONUSES: $1 if you teach 45 classes or more ($0.50 for 30+ classes)
Occasional extras:
BONUSES: $2 if a student books you within 24 hours notice
BONUSES: $5 if a "trial" student signs up for VIPKids after your class
BONUSES: $100+ for referring friends to join VIPKids (my referral code: 05KD26)Your base pay is determined by your experience and your interview. I have my TESOL and TEFL which I have used to teach ESL abroad but this is NOT required.
At the end of your 6-month contract, VIPKid will evaluate you for a raise in pay. You will receive your payments via direct deposit around the 15th of each month. I work in Canada but I have set up a FREE US bank account with my bank so that I can keep my income in US dollars but that's a personal preference.

The Application Process
There are a few steps involved before you are officially considered a VIPKid teacher and are allowed to begin work:
- Application (short and easy)
- Interview (where you teach a practice class)
- Mock 1 demo class
- Mock 2 demo class (not everyone needs a Mock 2 class --I didn't)
If you pass:
- Sign your contract
- Set up your account (three pictures, a short bio and a 15 second introduction video to parents)
- Send the required materials requested to VIPKid (proof of degree, identification, banking information for deposit).
- Download their app (highly recommended, not required)
- YOU'RE READY TO START. Open their calendar and select your time slots. Once you opened up times, you're done as it's now the parent's turn to book you. VIPKids will help book new teachers so you don't need to do anything.
